Will Jeep Wrangler Wheels Fit a Cherokee?
The Jeep Cherokee is one of the most popular models produced by Jeep. Their off-road capabilities have set them apart within the wheeling community which means they have great cross over with the Jeep Wrangler. It’s not uncommon for some parts to be shared between older Cherokees and Wranglers. Which leads to many Cherokee owners asking if Jeep Wrangler wheels will fit their XJs.
The only way to know if any wheel will work with a specific vehicle is to check the bolt pattern. Passenger vehicles come in 4, 5, 6 and 8 lug formations. 5 bolt patterns are most common on Jeeps. To measure your bolt pattern on a 4 bolt setup measure from the center of a lug nut to the nut across from it. If you are measuring a 5 bolt pattern setup measure from the center of the top lug down center of the lug across and down from it. See the chart below for reference.
Another resource that we like is this website which has a huge database of bolt pattern measurements. Keep in mind to always double check the data you see here as nothing is a guarantee. Simply input your year make and model and it will give you the specs on your Jeep.
If the bolt pattern matches you are good to go and the Jeep Wrangler wheels you are looking at will work with your Cherokee. A few things to keep in mind:
1. MEASURE THE BOLT PATTERN to make sure it will work.
2. Depending on what tire you are running you could run into rubbing issues. If you do you may need to add a 2 inch spacer to give a little more space between your rig and the tire.
3. Depending on the year the protocol may not match when it comes to tire pressure sensor gauges. For example if you have a Grand Cherokee with tire pressure sensors the Wrangler wheels you are looking at may not be compatible.
We are a huge fan of the look of Jeep Wrangler wheels and we totally understand why Cherokee owners are interested in adding them to their setup. With a little bit of due diligence you can find a set that will work well for our rig. Have you put Wrangler wheels on your Cherokee? Share your experience with us in the comments.
