Functional Interior Jeep Wrangler Upgrades

Interior Upgrades You Will Constantly Use

The best upgrades are the ones you use all the time and leave you saying “I wish I would have done this a long time ago”. Nothing is worse than spending your hard-earned cash on an accessory or part that just does not work out either due to poor quality, design, or just lack of use. We have had our fair share of both and want to share some of our favorites. They are well designed, functional, and well worth the money.

Interior Protection

Whether you plan to do a ton of off-roading or your Jeep is used for carrying the kids to soccer practice the interior can take a beating. Keeping your interior protected and clean is easy with a few affordable upgrades.

High-Quality Floor Mats

Interior mats can make a huge difference in keeping your interior clean. Stock mats have limited coverage. We have been running the Surefit liners from Red Rock 4×4 for 6 months and love them!

Made from high-quality thermoplastic they are form-fitted for superior coverage. Best of all the entire set can be picked up for the same price as just the front mats from competing brands. We have been putting them to work as we have explored some of the most rugged terrain in Utah.

You can’t forget about the cargo area. The factory carpet is a fur, dust, and hair magnet. Our labrador goes everywhere with us so having a quality rear cargo liner was a must. The Barricade Cargo liner has been a lifesaver.

We can easily pull it out rinse it off and throw it back in. It has an easy-to-cut-out insert if you are running a Wrangler with a rear subwoofer. Within minutes of taking it out of the box you have a liner that is functional, durable, and easy to clean.

Seat Protectors

Seats can take a massive beating, in and out, kids and pets climbing on them and all the dirt and grime from your adventures can really reak havoc on your seats. There are hundreds of options available from poor quality cheap covers to premium expensive covers. We found a set that lands right in the middle the perfect combination of quality and value, the Barricade Trail Proof Cover. These covers are easy to install, fit securely on the seat, and offer superior protection for your Jeep.

We have a long-term review coming but so far we have been very happy with them!

Maximizing Storage

Jeep Wranglers are tight on space. No matter how you use your Jeep you can always optimize your storage. We have tested a few different storage products over the years and have found a few staples that we love.

A. Secure Under Seat Storage: Jeep seats sit up off of the floor which leaves the space under the seats open for storage. Red Rock 4×4 has an excellent solution for offering a useful secure storage solution.

Secure Underseat Storage

The Underseat Storage Lockbox has been one of our favorite additions to the Jeep. It utilizes the factory seat bolts to place a lockable secure storage box under the front two seats. These are perfect for keeping valuables secure when you are running with the top off and are just the right size for your favorite pistol. They come with two keys and the drawer opens and shuts smoothly. It is important to point out that these boxes are thick and actually take away from the overall storage capacity. However, due to their enclosed nature, they make the storage more functional and useful which is a huge win in our books.

B. Rollbar Storage Bags: Nothing limits the interior storage space inside the Jeep than the roll bars. They take up a decent chunk of space and break up other valuable space within the Jeep. The little A notch between the rear part of the roll bar and the rear seat is space that is nearly impossible to take advantage of without a Rollbar Storage bag. Last summer we picked up the Redrock 4×4 Rollbar storage bags and they are fantastic! They tuck in just behind the rear seat in that little notch and allow you to stuff them full of gear.

Roll Bar Storage Bags

I used one side as my clothing storage for all of my adventures last summer. They have a host of pouches and compartments that you can stuff with all of your must-have quick access gear. On the other side, I put recovery gear, first aid kits, flashlights, and other emergency essentials that I wanted quick access to in the back of the Jeep. They work best with the rear seats folded down however that does not work for us as we use our rear seats for the kids and they do work with them up.

C. Jeep Attic: The Jeep Attic is a netting system from the guys at Blue Ridge Overland Gear. It is a must-have for any Jeep owner. It essentially sits above the rear passenger’s heads between the roof and the rollbar. It is perfect for Jackets, clothing, and other bulky items that you want up and out of the way.

On my solo Overlanding trips, I keep all of my clothing, jackets, and sleeping gear up there so it is quick access but out of the way. We have had this in our Jeep for over 3 years now and it is one of our most used accessories.

Simple Communications

When you are out on the trail you want to be able to communicate with others on the trail safely and keep your devices secure and easy to access. For two years now we have been using the Universal phone mount from BulletPoint Mounting solutions and it’s been a game-changer. It securely holds your phone or other devices in a simple-to-use and adjust system.

Jeep Gladiator Phone Mount

We picked up the Phone and GoPro mount. We have found we do not love the GoPro mount and would recommend you get the second arm setup for either the passenger’s device or your navigation device. We are working on our long-term review of this now. But to keep it short we highly recommend it and after thousands of miles on the trail, we are thrilled with how it has performed. We also like a simple HAM or GMRS setup depending on the group we are with. In both cases, we tie in with a simple mic that attaches to our CB mount from Red Rock 4×4. It simply attaches to the passenger grab bar and is a perfect place to clip our microphone mount.

Lastly for those really off-the-grid locations, we use the SpotX. It allows us to send texts, location updates, and even SOS messages if needed via a simple to use device. I store this in the glove box for safekeeping and it allows me to check in once I have made it to camp while out on the trail.

It does come with a subscription plan but for the cost of a combo meal, you have the ability to communicate with anyone no matter where you are.

Wrapping Things Up

While these are not the super flashy upgrades you may think of they are game-changers for interior functionality. Keeping your Jeep protected, clean, and organized while out on the trail is a simple way to improve your off-roading experience. Have an interior upgrade that you love and recommend? Let us know about it in the comments!
