Trasharoo Review: The Ultimate Spare Tire Trash Bag?

Trasharoo Up Close

Long Term Trasharoo Review

The Trasharoo is by far the most popular Spare Tire Trash Bag Carrier on the market. We have been running one for nearly two years and feel we have enough miles and time using it to give it a proper review. We picked ours up on Amazon for around $45. Spare tire trash carriers are pretty simple products. Essentially they strap to your spare tire or tailgate giving you quick access to a bag with several convenient pockets as well as a large container area where you can put your trash while camping and overlanding.

Trasharoo Review

When we first picked ours up we took it off and on between trips. We keep our rig outside and with cold snowy winters and hot summers here in Utah we felt it would help the Trasharoo last longer. However we quickly found this to be a little cumbersome and for the past 18 months we have had the Trasharoo on our Jeep full-time. So far the Trasharoo has held up exceptionally well. The black has started to fade and the zippers could use a little TLC to help them open and close easier as they have been exposed to a lot of dirt out on the trail. The bag is made of 900 denier canva and is designed to work with traditional 30 gallon trash bags and can hold up to 50lbs. It has drain holes at the bottom making it easy to clean after a week of holding garbage. Checkout our video as we breakdown everything about the bag.

Pros

  • Smart functional design that is easy to use and very convenient
  • Very inexpensive compared to other options on the market
  • Solid build quality
  • Carries up to 50lbs (we have used it to carry more than that many times)

Cons

  • Could benefit from more pockets
  • Mesh pocket wears fairly quickly
  • Buckles and straps wear with heat and sun exposure
  • No way to divide large center containment area

Competitors?

Over the past few years multiple companies have brought to market their own rendition of the spare tire trash carrier. Most notably the well designed and quality built carriers from The Overland Gear Guy and Blue Ridge Overland Gear. While we have not ran either of these full-time we have seen and handled them and without a doubt they are built from superior materials and exceptional quality. Overall their biggest downside is the cost in comparison to the Trasharoo. In both of those instances they are nearly three times the cost of the Trasharoo.

Should You Get One?

We highly recommend the Trasharoo. It is an inexpensive way to keep trash, dirty diapers and other garbage out of the rig but contained in a responsible manner. We love using it to carry wet gear from swimming in mountain lakes or when the kids end up muddy while camping. As Jeep owners we tend to add a lot of kit to our Jeep that may or may not get a lot of use. However we have found that the Trasharoo is one of the items we use the very most. Pick one up today on Amazon.
