RedRock Roll Bar Storage Bags Review

Over 18 months ago we picked up a set of the RedRock rear roll bar storage bags to help increase our Jeeps interior storage capacity. The roll bar in a Jeep Wrangler takes up a significant amount of space. However, it can be used to mount storage solutions to help make better use of the rear cargo area of the Jeep. After 18 months of use here are our thoughts.

How It Works

The team at RedRocks designed a simple to use, yet effective roll bar storage bag. They utilize a strap and buckle system to wrap around the rear roll bar of the Jeep Wrangler to mount. Installation takes only a few minutes, simply adjust the straps to the appropriate width of the bars and buckle the two ends together. There are multiple straps making it easy to set up a secure mount.  With a few small adjustments, we had them in place in minutes and never had to make any other changes.

Features

The bags feature a host of storage compartments. A large side entry compartment can be found on the forward-facing narrow section of the bag. We use this largest compartment for items we want with us all the time but do not need quick access to. Perfect for recovery gear, a large first aid kit, or seasonal inclement weather gear.

The bags also feature a large easy access front pocket that faces towards the inside of the rear cargo compartment. We used this for gear we want quick access to. Perfect for headlamps, flashlights, quick access first aid kit, and hygiene products.

In addition to these primary pockets, there are several small item pockets on the front of the inward-facing compartment as well as an entire large MOLLE panel compatible area. This allows you to utilize other MOLLE-compatible mounting solutions. Lastly, it includes two shoulder straps so the bags can be removed and used as an improvised shoulder or backpack.

Usability and Durability

Overall usability of the bags is very good. As mentioned before installation is easy and access to compartments is good. We have loved having these installed in the Jeep and they truly help you take advantage of unusable space between the roll bars. The storage capacity is excellent and we have found more and more ways to utilize their storage capacity.

Durability is average. We had one zipper on the large inside-facing pocket stop working not long after we installed it. This initially was very disappointing however the rest of the zippers and bag have held up well. This makes us feel like perhaps it was a manufacturer defect vs poor quality materials.

One of our favorite things is just how easy they are to remove. More than once I utilized one of the bags to hold all of my clothing. I could easily take it out of the Jeep, hang it on a tree or the roof rack of our Jeep and I had nice easy access to my gear/clothing.

Cons

The only major con we have found is it was designed to work with the rear seat up or down. It fits when the seat is up. However, it is a tight fit and the large inside storage compartment can only be accessed if you fold the rear seat forward. The bags work best if you plan to utilize them by having the rear seat folded down.

Should You Buy Them

If you are looking to improve your Jeeps storage capacity, better organize your camping gear, and want a relatively inexpensive way to do that we think this is the perfect answer for you. It is highly adaptable, well made, and relatively affordable. We cannot think of a Jeeper that would not be able to utilize this in their setup.
