How To Take The Doors Off A Jeep Wrangler

Jeep With No Doors

Jeep Wranglers are a symbol of freedom. What can convey the feeling of freedom more than cruising to your favorite dirt trail with no doors or roof? Nothing! So how do you take the doors off of your jeep? We break it down into a few simple steps. You will need a hex tool kit. If you own a 2015 or newer Jeep Wrangler your Jeep will come with one of these equipped from the manufacture. If you have an older Jeep Wrangler you can pick on up on Amazon here

Step One:
Roll down the Jeep window. This will be needed for when you live the door off of the hinge.

Step Two: Use the hex tool to remove the bolts at the bottom of each door hinge. The bolts are on the bottom side of the hinge. A small pin will be removed that attached to the stud that is attached to the door. There is a storage area in the rear of your Jeep designed to hold these pins so you do not lose them.

Step Three: Next if you have a Jeep Wrangler that is equipped with power locking doors and windows you need to remove the electrical power harness. This is the black harness that runs from the bottom of the door up under the dash of the Jeep. There is a simple electrical pin connector that you detach. Follow the harness from the door up to where it connects to the Jeep and push in the button to release the pin connection.

Step Four: Remove the door leash. There is a mesh strap that connects the door to the Jeep preventing it from swinging forward and slamming into the front of the Jeep. Release the strap while holding the door so it does not swing forward. Releasing the strap is easy just pull it up over the post it is attached too.

Step Five: Remove the door by opening it slightly around a 30 degree angle and then grab the door by the bottom and in the window and lift it up. Once free carry the door to safe place for storage. We recommend picking up a wall mount and door cases to keep your removed doors safe while off. The doors weight around 70lbs so make sure you are prepared to handle the weight.

Additionally remember you will need to purchase a set of rear view mirrors that will bolt onto the Jeep as the factory rear view mirrors are attached to the door that you just removed. Driving without a mirrors is unsafe and not legal. Pickup the mirrors below for less than $70 on Amazon.
