A Brief Jeep Wrangler History
The Jeep Wrangler was created in 1986 and is the direct descendant of the Willys Jeep created for the military. The Willys Jeep was so popular and loved by military personal that the Willy’s Kaiser-Jeep and American Motor Company (AMC) adapted the vehicle for civilian use and called it the CJ (Civilian Jeep). The CJ evolved into the Wrangler over time and both included the ground breaking features of the original Willys. Namely incredible off road capability, solid front axles, fold down windshield and can be driven without doors.
In 2004 a long wheel base version was released known as the Unlimited however that model transitioned to be a 4 door model in 2006. Each model within the Wrangler family has been given an identifier to help distinguish versions within the lineup. Examples TJ, JK, JK and the all new JL. The release of the JKU the 4 door version of the Jeep catapulted sales for the company, having a much stronger appeal for for families and making it one of the most popular SUVs in the United States.
