Portable Jump Starter Equals Essential Jeep Gear
It’s not uncommon that a day out on the trail can present a host of potential troubles. However, the most common issue we have encountered are battery-related. When people are in and out of their vehicle, charging devices, running fridges and leaving dome lights on it is not uncommon to run into a dead battery. If you are traveling solo this can be a real challenge as you are not able to use another vehicle to jump your rig.
That is why we highly recommend carrying a portable jump pack. We have been carrying the Audew 1000A Peak portable power pack for over a year now and it has come in really handy. Real World Use
Over the past year, our power pack has lived in the rear cargo box under the hatch or under the passenger seat. We used it the most as a portable charging device for cameras, cell phones, tablets and other devices while out on the trail. Rather than running the battery dead in the Jeep with the key in the accessory position, we break out the jumper and it has been phenomenal. We regularly film our trips which means our cameras need charged and the Audew charger did an amazing job.
Last summer, we spent a week at Lake Powell and used the pack twice to jump-start the houseboat which is a massive v8 engine. Throughout the week we used the pack to run our portable pump to blow up tubes and other floaties. At this point, we were really pleased with the pack and would highly recommend it, but it was not done proving itself yet.
Out Performing The Competition
Just this past month we did a multi-day trip into Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. During that trip one of our friends Toyota 4Runners was having issues with the battery. Each morning the battery was not capable of jumping the vehicle. This presented a pretty big problem as we needed it to help transport people to and from the slot canyons we were hiking in. He knew his battery was having issues so he brought his own jumper pack. It was much larger which took up more space in his rig and was not able to jump his vehicle. Even after using the Audew to charge phones and cameras, it was able to jump-start the 4runner on the first try.
