Are Jeep Wranglers Automatics?

One question we see being asked a lot is if Jeep Wranglers are all automatics? The simple answer is no! Jeep Wranglers have come with a manual transmission standard or automatic transmission option for a very long time, all the way back to the early 1990’s. It is however not uncommon to find a lot of vehicles with a manual transmission. Jeep enthusiasts for years have enjoyed the flexibility of being able to control their vehicle at a more granular level especially when off-road via a manual transmission. Additionally manual transmissions are less complicated and generally more reliable than automatic transmissions. However when Jeep released the JKU in 2008 the number of automatic Jeeps on the market skyrocketed as the new 4 door Jeep was able to target a whole new audience of buyers as it went from being a off-road specialty vehicle to a very well rounded family SUV that has unmatched off-road capability. So if you are looking into buying a Jeep you will have the ability to choose a manual or automatic transmission based on your personal preferences.

We believe that the best way to choose if you want to run an automatic or manual transmission is to spend a day out on the trail with each one. Grab a friend with a Jeep or hit up your local Jeep club and a friendly Jeep owner will be happy to let you spend a few minutes behind the wheel. If neither of those are an option at minimum take them both for a test drive from a dealership and see what you are most comfortable with.
